Native Louisiana Iris Festival Postponed Until 2026

August 5, 2024 New Orleans, La.

The Bayou Teche Native Louisiana Iris Festival group has voted to postpone the first festival until 2026. State grants for festivals have been discontinued at their past levels. The organizers are worried that not hearing news about other grants yet is pushing the envelope on putting the festival financing in place early enough to be sure it is fully funded in time for commitments that need to be made soon.

They hope that this change does not affect anyone who was planning to attend the 2025 event.

The festival's first day in 2025 was to be held in New Iberia, La., and the second day was going to be at Palmetto Island State Park near Abbeville, La.

LICI may organize another Abbeville Red iris bloom event at the Palmetto Island State Park on Saturday, April 5, 2025. A decision on whether or not to do this will be made by mid-September.

The group also voted to change the festival's name to the Acadiana Native Iris Festival.
