It is important to note that there may be additional locations where native irises can be seen blooming that are more challenging to access or located on private property. LICI's goal is to direct the public to areas where it is safe and easy to view this treasured native Louisiana plant while it is in bloom, including the state wildflower, the Louisiana iris species I. giganticaerulea

On March 26, 2025, only a few of the sites have teh irises begun to bloom, but the pace is expected to pick up next week and continue for three weeks. The map has now been released, allowing people to plan their trips to the sites.

Each location can start and finish blooming at different times from the other locations. As a rule, the further south the location, the earlier they bloom.

It's essential to note that the iris bloom typically lasts only two to three weeks at each location, with the peak bloom occurring in the middle.

You can find regular updates about many of the locations as the iris bloom progresses on the Louisiana Iris Conservation Initiative's Facebook page.
