Louisiana Iris Conservation Initiative (LICI) member Gary Salathe gave a presentation at the management conference of the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP) recently. The conference was held at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
Gary was one of three featured speakers. His talk was on the iris rescue and restoration projects he has organized on behalf of the Greater New Orleans Iris Society (GNOIS) over the last few years and what projects he has planned in the future with the LICI, especially as it relates to the Baratiaria basin.
A number of the conference attendees reached out to Gary after the meeting with offers of help and ideas for iris projects that could be done with their individual organizations.
Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program is a partnership of government, business, scientists, conservation organizations, agricultural interests, and individuals for the preservation, protection, and restoration of the Barataria estuary in southeast Louisiana.
